Scarface Game Gets The Skywalker Treatment

The upcoming "Scarface: The World is Yours" video game features blockbuster-style sound design mixed at Skywalker Ranch by Oscar-winner Randy Thom.
Sierra Entertainment's new video game Scarface: The World is Yours is scheduled to hit retail stores October 8, and will feature sound design and audio effects on par with big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, mixed at George Lucas's Skywalker Ranch by Oscar-winning sound designer Randy Thom.
"Scarface is an icon of American cinema and the game needs to live up
to not only the film's enduring legacy but also quality level of today's
best blockbuster films," said Cindy Cook, Vivendi Games' chief strategy and marketing officer. "Our goal from the very beginning was to deliver
the best possible experience as Tony Montana. By partnering with the best
sound studio in the world and working with a Hollywood legend like Randy
Thom, we have ensured that the sound quality in Scarface: The World Is
Yours will be second-to-none."
Scarface: The World is Yours lets players assume the role of Tony Montana as he tries to rebuild his empire and wreak vengeance on his enemies in 1980s Miami.
Voice casting for the Scarface game puts together Hollywood icons like Robert Loggia, Elliot Gould, Steven Bauer with younger stars like Wilmer Valderrama, while the music soundtrack includes more than seven hours of licensed music from the 1980s through today, plus the original Scarface movie score by Georgio Moroder. The game producers then spent five weeks at Skywalker Ranch, with lead sound designer Randy Thom overseeing review and design of all the game's audio effects. Scarface: The World is Yours represents Thom's first venture in to video games, but sound design résumés in Hollywood don't get any better, with credits including Apocalypse Now, Return of the Jedi, The Right Stuff, and The Incredibles.
"Scarface: The World Is Yours will deliver a surprising audio
experience that will add life and power to the experience of playing as the
one-and-only Tony Montana," said Randy Thom. "By bringing the game and its
developers to Skywalker Sound and remixing the game on-site, we were able
to create a more detailed and engaging audio experience that goes beyond
what other games have achieved."
Scarface: The World is Yours will be available for PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Windows PCs for an estimated retail price if $49.99; a PS2 collector's edition will also be available for $59.99. Sierra will also launch a separate title, Scarface: Money. Power. Respect. for the PSP on October 8 for $39.99. The PS2, Xbox, and PC versions are rated M for "Mature" by the ESRB.
