Everyone has a cell phone, right? Well if that is not the case, then you might be in luck. If he is really set on not spending the money for a service plan from one of the cellular phone companies, there is a huge range of phones available from companies that will allow you to pay as you go. For example, from Virgin Mobile, you can purchase their Kyocera K7 Rave for as little as $39.99, and with the money you have left over buy him the minutes he needs to keep in touch with the family.

Of course, even if he has a cell phone, that doesn't mean that you can't buy him a new one. With all the new phones out this year there is bound to be one that he would love. The newest of them have higher resolution cameras, Palm or Windows interfaces, and even the ability to play music or videos. Take the new Sony Ericsson P910a which was just reviewed here at Designtechnica. Not only would he have all the latest gadgets in a cell phone, but he could easily take pictures of his children wherever he goes.

Even if telephones are not the thing for your father, there are plenty of other choices out there. Perhaps he is really into music or sports. There are some really cool new satellite radios from both Sirius, and XM Satellite Radio, which might light his fire. The Delphi XM MyFi which retails for $299 is one of the neatest radios out there. Not only is it small but it even allows you to record songs or programs that you miss so you can listen to them later, select artists you might want to listen too and even gives you a whole set of bases and antennas so no matter where you are, for the most part, it will still get reception. Or pick the XACT XTR1 which receives Sirius Radio for $99.99. While it might not have all the features of the Delphi, it is a lot less expensive and it still is one pretty amazing radio while still giving you access to some incredible radio programming and with optional accessories you can take the unit from the car into the house and even out for a nice family picnic.

Another great gift for Father's Day is one of the notebook computers that have recently come down substantially in price. For example the Acer TM2304LCI, which can be purchased from Newegg for $649, offers some amazing features like a 15" XGA display, DVD/CD-RW combo drive and a 40GB hard drive. Although this might be a tad expensive, there are also some really cool accessories, so don't despair.

There are lots of flash drives on the market today in various sizes that will make your father's life a lot more simple. Just imagine, you can buy him a gift that will allow him to take his work home with him. Ok, so maybe that doesn't sound so good, but how about being able to take pictures of his family, friends, even trips and be able to show them to everyone wherever he goes. This should make him smile.
The only problem with taking his pictures with him when he goes is that he might not be able to get them on his computer. So, perhaps it is just about time to buy him a new digital camera. With all the latest and greatest ones, there is bound to be one within your budget which will be just the thing for him. The Olympus Stylus Verve for example takes great pictures, comes in a variety of colors and can be found for around $289 at Newegg. The Verve takes great pictures (4 MegaPixels), is weatherproof, lightweight and if he wants to match his new clothes, even comes in a variety of colors.

For the dad who loves do-it-yourself projectes, a subscription to MAKE Magazine is a great idea. MAKE Magazine helps those who love to tweak, modify and hack technology. Published by O'Reilly, MAKE is a hybrid magazine/book that takes a highly visual approach.
In short, no matter what your budget, your father's hobby or even your own personal tastes, there is something for everyone just waiting to be purchased for that special gift.
