Tivo Signs Up for Internet Video Content

May 10, 2006 | by Nino Marchetti

DVR company elects to partner with Internet TV pioneer Brightcove as it looks for ways to bring more engaging content to its subscribers.

Tivo, in an increasingly diversified attempt to offer new content to its subscriber base, today announced a partnership with Internet TV pioneer Brightcove to bring content partner video offerings from this company to Tivo boxes. The first fruits of this relationship should begin appearing within the coming months.

Under the terms of the arrangement, said Tivo and Brightcove, the two companies will begin making available to Tivo subscribers who use Tivo Series2 DVRs broadband video content from Brightcove's content partners. All content initially offered through this relationship will be free and may carry some advertising. Specific content partners were not announced, though Brightcove does have examples of existing content partners posted online.

This announcement comes on the heels of news a few days ago that Tivo will allow subscribers to selectively choose categories of targeted advertisements they wish to watch.

"Tivo has revolutionized television viewing and Brightcove is bringing about major changes in consumer viewing of broadband-delivered video," said Tom Rogers, President and CEO of Tivo, in a statement. "Through this new partnership, the process of delivering Internet based video to Tivo users will be significantly facilitated."
