Alienware has announced three new Core Duo notebooks, with screens ranging from 14 to 17 inches and prices starting at $1,099.
Formerly-boutique PC maker Alienware has unveiled three new Core Duo notebooks, with screen sizes ranging from 14 to 17 inches and base configurations priced from $1,099 to $1,499, with various options and add-ons capable of taking prices up over $2,000.
The Alienware Sentia m3450 replaces the company's M3400, and offers a 14.1-inch screen with ClearView, Intel integrated graphics, 7.1 audio, integrated Wi-Fi and gigabit Ethernet, 3 USB 2.0 ports, one 4-pin IEEE 1394a port, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, and a built-in Web cam. The m3450 offers up to 3.5 hours of battery life, and a base weight of 5.5 pounds. Add-on options include a 7200 RPM 100 GB drive, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a Core Duo running up to 2.16 GHz. Base pricing starts at $1,099 and units are expected to begin shipping July 10. Devote practitioners of the gaming lifestyle might want to hold off for systems with a little more graphic power, since the only available video option is Intel's integrated graphics.
In the mddle, the Area 51 m5550 replaces the m5500, and offers a 15.4-inch LCD screen (either 1280 by 768 pixels or 1920 by 1200 pixels) and a choice of either the Nvidia GeForce Go 7600 (with 256 MB of video memory) or the ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 (with 128 MB of video memory)—although you get DVI and S-video out either way.The m5550s sport built-in Wi-Fi and gigabit Ethernet, three USB 2.0 ports, a 4-pin IEEE 1394a port, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, and options for Bluetooth, a 7200 RPM 100 GB hard drive, and up to 2 GB of RAM. Pricing starts at $1,399.
At the high end, the Area 51 m5750 replaces the m5700, and sports a 17-inch LCD screen (available at resolutions of 1440 by 900 pixels or 1920 by 1200 pixels), DVI and S-video output, either ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 or x1800 graphics controllers (with 128 MB oor 256 MB of video memory, respectively), built-in Wi-Fi and gigabit Ethernet, single and dual hard drive configurations, 4 USB 2.0 ports, a 4-pin IEE 1394a connector, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, optional Bluetooth, and support for up to 2 GB of memory. Base configurations start at $1,499 and should be available July 24—although Alienware is currently saying any display option you select for the m5550 or m5750 may delay your order, so your guess is as good as ours.
