Verbatim, JVC Draw Blanks on Mini-DVD Media

August 09, 2006 | by Geoff Duncan

Verbatim has announced it will be shipping blank dual-layer Mini DVD-R media by the end of August, while JVC pushes single layer Mini DVD-R media out the door.

Lamenting lack of high-capacity blank media for your Mini DVD camcorders, which accept 3-inch/8cm blank media? Verbatim and JVC want to make your life complete. Verbatim will be shipping what it says is the world's first dual-layer, single-sided Mini DVD-R blank media later this month, while JVC is cranking out what it says is the "first ever" dual-layer single sided Mini DVD-R media. Who's on first? Does it matter? The dual-layer, single-sides media provide about 55 minutes of continuous recording and should be playable on the majority of consumer DVD players.

Verbatim's 3-packs will be priced at $24.99 when they're available later in August; JVC's media will be available in September (ooh, guess Verbatim might beat 'em!) as single discs or 3-packs; no pricing info has been announced.
