Sharp Announces Triple-View LCD

Japan's Sharp Corporation announced today it has developed an LCD display which can show different images to viewers at three different angles.

Folks were a little skeptical last year when Sharp announced it had developed an dual-view LCD screen which could display different images to viewers on the left and the right. This year, Sharp is upping the ante, claiming to have developed a new triple-view LCD display (Japanese) which can show different images to the left, right, and center.

In theory, a triple view LCD panel installed in a car could enable a drive to view a navigation system, a passenger to surf the Web, and backseat passenger to enjoy quality video entertainment programming. And Sharp is probably right to be thinking about putting a triple-view LCD in cars: that's where most of the interest in the dual-view LCDs has been. Another possible application is store signing and other public displays.
