The iTune store continues to add to its collection -- Apple made a bold move by opening its own online music. It actually inspired me to start thinking about opening my own online store, especially aftered I stumbled upon a WikiHow article called how to start an online store:
Starting an online store is not an easy thing to do—It takes a fierce determination, and a real passion to get started. You will encounter an incredible amount of resistance along the way. I started two online stores earlier in 2007 and it took several months before I got my first sale, but eventually my patience and persistence paid off. There are several bits of advice that folks should heed.
First off, watch out for pyramid schemes and scams surrounding akwardly worded opportunities to start your own store. There are several very credible services from venture-backed startups, as well as Yahoo, and Amazon on the market these days that you can use for your infrastructure. A little research on good articles about how to start an online store will turn these up.
Secondly, its extremely important to pick a market niche for your store that you are passionate about and have a knowledege base around. Your passion and enthusiasm for a given subject will be your leverage, your advantage, and the basis for which people will choose to shop at your store instead of someone else's.
There are a couple good articles that helped me to get started. I've spent alot of time deep searching google trying to find some real articles on this stuff:
