Following a price cut on Xbox 360 consoles in the U.S. , Microsoft plans to knock 50 euros off the price in Europe, beginning August 24.
On the heels of taking $50 off the price of Xbox 360 systems in the United States, Microsoft is now planning to reduce the cost of Xbox 360 consoles in Europe. Effective August 24, Microsoft will take €50 off the price of its 20 GB Xbox 360 "premium" consoles, lowering the retail price fo €349.99. Microsoft also announced it plans to introduce the Xbox 360 Elite (with its 120 GB hard drive) in Europe for €449.99, and reduce the price of the Xbox 360 Core system by €20 to 279.99.
The move is widely considered a way to make Microsoft's game console more attractive to consumer going into the holiday buying season, make it more competitive with the sales juggernaut which is the Nintendo Wii, and as a response to recent price reductions for Sony's PlayStation 3 console.
