Alienware Debuts HD Media Server

Alienware is getting into the custom home theater biz, offering a HD Media Server to its lineup capable of supporting 4 TB of storage.
Formerly-boutique computer maker Alienware is getting into the custom home theater business, announcing a new Alienware HD Media Server aimed at the system integration market. The rack-mountable system will support high-definition content at resolutions up to 1080p via HDMI, and also offer internal CableCard support, a Dolby 7.1 preamp output, and support for up to 4 TB in hot-swappable hard drive storage.
"The newest entry to Alienware's digital home line, the HD Media Server, [..] fulfills the demand for an easy-to-use, high definition content storage and distribution device in next-generation digital homes," said Alienware product marketing manager Marc Diana, in a release.
Alienware didn't announce any pricing or availability information on the HD Media Center. However, the company has announced it is adding a Blu-ray disc drive to its existing Hangar 18: HD Entertainment Center. Alienware is also showing an external CableCard solution for the Hangar 18 system, which—unfortunately for the do-it-yourselfers out there—the company has "committed" to selling only through system integrators.
