Apple releases QuickTime 7.3 to patch seven flaws in previous versions, making the seventh update in 2007.

To say Apple’s QuickTime media player has been having problems might be an understatement. On Monday the company issued the seventh update this year for the software to correct seven security flaws apparent in QuickTime 7.2 and earlier versions.

Apple has stated that the new update, QuickTime 7.3, should be downloaded and installed by those who use Windows XP, Vista, and Mac OS X v10.3.9, Mac OS X v10.4.9 or later, and Mac OS X v10.5.

Six of the security flaws would enable malware to be installed on a user’s computer by having users open an infected file. The last involves QuickTime for Java.
