November 08, 2007 | by Geoff Duncan
Green is the new black, and Sony want to tap into eco-friendly notions with a series of new designs for its Vaio FZ notebooks.
In a move Sony characterizes as "affirming its eco-conscious stance," the company is dressing up its Vaio FZ notebooks in four new "eco-cool" nature-inspired stylings intended to enable users to demonstrate their dedication to preserving the Earth's environment.
Sony alo says it will donate one percent of the purchase price of its Graphics Splash Eco Edition notebooks to the 1% for the Planet business alliances dedicated to raising money for non-profit environmental organizations. In addition, Sony is offering rebates to customers who trade in their old PCs for a credit toward a new Vaio notebook.
Sony says the new Vaio FZs will be available in early November in four styles: Bloom, Spotted Life, Clay Earth, and Caribbean Water at prices starting near $1,350. The systems sport Intel Core 2 Duo processors (from 2.0 to 2.6 GHz), 1 to 4 GB of RAM, a dual-layer DVD burer, a 15.4-inch WXGA LCD display driven by an Nvidia GeForce 8400M GT graphic controller, and 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi.
