Logitech Buys WiLife

Accessory and peripheral maker Logitech is getting into the home monitoring business buy acquiring WiLife for $24 million.

Accessory and peripheral maker Logitech has announced it is moving into the home monitoring and video surveillance business buy acquiring WiLife for about $24 million, plus a possible performance bonus if revenue targets are met. WiLife bills itself as an alternative to expensive video surveillance systems, leveraging PCs to create a easy-to-use self-monitoring systems for homes and small businesses.

"The acquisition of WiLife allows Logitech to offer yet another mainstream solution for more convenience and control in the digital home," said Logitech executive VP Junien Labrousse, in a statement. "It provides an easy and affordable way to use a PC and video cameras to gain peace of mind when away from home. The WiLife business also complements our existing video business."

WiLife surveillance products launched in 2005 and are currently available in the U.S. and Europe; the company offers indoor and outdoor cameras, hidden cameras, and night vision kits, along with Windows-only control software. Logitech plans to offer wider distribution for existing products (under the Logitech brand), and integrate WiLife's business into its own Internet Communications Business Unit.
