Firefox 3 Beta Arrives
November 21, 2007 | by Christopher Nickson
Mozilla releases the developer beta version of Firefox 3 — after 27 months.
It might be late, but it’s finally here. Mozilla has released the beta version of Firefox 3, its browser.
After 27 months of development, the beta became available for download yesterday, although it’s currently meant as a developer release “for testing purposes only” at present.
In a statement the company said,
"These beta releases are targeted at web developers and our testing community to gain feedback before advancing to the next stage in the release process."
With over 20,000 lines of code changed and 11,000 issues addressed, this is very much a new Firefox. According to Mozilla, Firefox 3 has better security to counter phishing attacks, and features antivirus software and parental controls similar to those found on Windows Vista.
The company claims the new browser will offer improved zooming and tab controls, as well as integrating better with Vista and Mac operating systems.
Although Mozilla is refusing to give a full release date, some have speculated that it will be about a month away.
