Nokia Launches N-Gage Preview

Nokia has launched a preview version of its renewed N-Gage mobile gaming service for N81 owners, with a full service launch expected soon.
Nokia has taken the wraps off a preview version of its revamped N-Gage mobile gaming service. Currently available in "First Access" form to owners of Nokia N81s (support for more N-series mobile devices expected soon), Nokia is inviting users to reserve their player names, download the pre-release N-Gage application, try out and purchase games, and provide feedback on how the service works.
Originally slated to launch in September 2007, Nokia delayed the rebirth of its N-Gage platform until early 2008 to work out last minute kinks in the service. Nokia's N81 devices have been shipping with a preview version of the service for a while; the new First Access application adds a handful of capabilities. The service looks to combine social gaming tools with a collection of innovative new titles to draw both experienced and casual gamers.
Nokia also launched its social networking site Ovi, enabling users to share photos and videos using technology the company acquired from Twango.
Nokia is the only major phone manufacturer to be actively creating its own mobile social and gaming services, rather than partnering to offer mobile-enabled access to similar, existing services.
