Microsoft Responds to Yahoo's Rejection

Hurt but not ready to call it quits, Microsoft stated its continued intentions to hammer out a deal with Yahoo on Monday.
Like the star high school quarterback facing rejection from the prettiest girl in school, Microsoft appears puzzled by Yahoo’s dismissal of its proposed acquisition, and responded Monday, much as our stereotype quarterback would, by pledging that it’s not over. The press release reaffirmed Microsoft’s continued desire to “consummate a transaction” with the apple of its eye.
“It is unfortunate that Yahoo! has not embraced our full and fair proposal to combine our companies,” the statement read. “Based on conversations with stakeholders of both companies, we are confident that moving forward promptly to consummate a transaction is in the best interests of all parties.”
Microsoft not only preached of how effective combining companies would be, it also played an unexpected card by claiming that a Yahoo-Microsoft merger would “create a more competitive marketplace by establishing a compelling number two competitor for Internet search and online advertising.”
And of course, true to the story of a high school drama, Microsoft even closed with a vague threat. “Microsoft reserves the right to pursue all necessary steps to ensure that Yahoo!’s shareholders are provided with the opportunity to realize the value inherent in our proposal,” it read. Yikes. Someone might want to get the guidance counselors involved in this.
