Toshiba has refreshed part of its Satellite notebook line, adding an affordable 17-inch unit and new "Sleep and Charge" USB ports.

Toshiba has refreshed part of its Satellite notebook line, adding an affordable 17-inch model, along with four revamped models that feature new Sleep-and-Charge USB ports that can power and charge peripherals like cameras, cell phones, and media players even when the notebook is powered off or asleep…but still receiving power from its AC adapter.

"Toshiba has long been a leader of innovation, and prides itself on creating solutions that make the digital lifestyle even better," said Toshiba Digital Products Division VP of marketing Jeff Barney, in a statement. "With the development of the Sleep-and-Charge USB ports, Toshiba has developed an innovative technology that helps ensure that our digital products are ready for use at the moment we need them."

The new USB ports are available on the new Satellite U400, M300, A300, and P300 models. These systems feature Toshiba's new Fusion Finish in a grey-pinstriped Horizon pattern that gives the notebooks a sleek, modern, glossy appearance. The new systems also feature "Feather-Touch" multimedia command keys that sit beneath the Fusion finish, and the notebooks feature Dolby Sound Room technology to simulate surround sound using either integrated speakers or headphones. The four new Satellite models with the Sleep-and-Charge USB ports are available with a variety of AMD and Intel processors, ATI RAdeon HD3470 or HD3650 graphics, a high-definition LCD display, and HDMI video output. Toshiba says the new notebooks are available today; prices start at $869.99.

Toshiba also announced its Satellite L350, an affordable notebook with a 17.1-inch 1,440 by 900-pixel LCD display, an 2 GHz AMD Turion dual-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM, a dual-layer DVD burner, and three of the new Sleep-and-Charge USB ports. Prices for the L350 start at $749.99, and should be available now.
