Rock Band Launches Full Album Downloads

MTV has announced Rock Band fans will be able to download and play full music albums along with the video game...and the opening act is Judas Priest.

MTV has announced is will make good on its promise to offer full albums for use with its popular Rock Band video game: beginning next week, the game will begin offering albums that can be played along with the game. First up: Screaming for Vengeance, the widely-known 1982 album by Brit metal band Judas Priest, featuring the band's radio hit "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." Coming in May: the 1980 self-titleds debut album from The Cars. June will bring the album Doolittle from alternative darlings The Pixies.

Albums will cost $14.99, with individual songs from the albums also available at $1.99 each. Screaming for Vengeance will hit Microsoft's Xbox Live service April 22, and Sony's PlayStation 3 online store on April 24.

Rock Band had initially planned to lead off its full album offerings with Who's Next by The Who when the fame was announced in mid-2007. There's no word when (or if) Who's Next will hit Rock Band. Rock Band currently offers more than 140 tracks for use with the game, and is credited with more than 8 million song downloads since the game launced in November 2007.
