For folks who need to get their Blu-ray on, LG has rolled out 6x internal and external Blu-ray burners for PCs.
Electronics manufacturer LG is eager to have compuer users jump on the Blu-ray bandwagon, and to make it easier the company has introduced three new Blu-ray burners that can write to BD-R media at 6× speeds and BD-RE media at 2× speeds. The new units offer LightScribe technology for emblazoning and personalizing discs, along with SecurDisc capabilities to protect data.
"LG drives offer everyday users and professionals some of the fastest recording speeds in the industry," said LG senior marketing manager Marc Sorkin, in a statement. "With cutting-edge technologies such as SecurDisc and LightScribe, which make data transfer easier and safer, these drives meet consumers' increasing demand for a compact storage option both in the office and at home."
The external BE06 connects via a USB 2.0 connection, and also foffers 16× recording of DVD+RW and ±RW media. The drive can read all BD, DVD, and CD formats, and is powered from a separate external AC adapter. The BE06 is priced at $379.95.
The GBW-H20L internal burner can handle 6 × BR-R writing and 2× BD-RE writing, along with 16× DVD burning and 40× CD burning; the new GBC-H20L can read BD-R media at 6× but doesn't appear to write to Blu-ray media: that may account for its $199.95 price tag, where the GBW-H20L goes for $279.95.
And for users who previously bought into the HD DVD camp, all three drives can read HD DVD media at 3× speeds.
