Dell's latest 27-inch LCD can handle pretty much any format you can throw at it, and has respectable panel specs to boot.

In its second foray into the land of excessive 27-inch monitors, Dell quietly slipped out the UltraSharp 2709W display on Thursday, an LCD monitor with an arm-long list of features to match its match its behemoth screen size.

The 2709W not only accepts your standard DVI-D and VGA connections, it also does component video, composite video, the relatively rare DisplayPort, and HDMI (with support for HDCP, in case you plan on hooking it up to a Blu-ray player or PS3.) Specs on the 1920 x 1200 panel include a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, 450cd/m2 brightness, 6 ms response times, and an impressive 1.07 billion-color palette. Like most of Dell’s fabled LCDs, it also has a built-in USB hub and will swivel, tilt, raise and lower as well.

The cost for Dell’s all-rounder? Not cheap, at $999, but considering that last year’s 2707WFP has already fallen from $1,399 to $799, we wouldn’t expect it to stay there for long.
