Today marks the day that T-Mobile switches on its super speedy uplink mobile broadband service in the UK, putting it ahead of the pack.

Super 3-G, which allows for fast mobile broadband downloads, also known as HSDPA, or high speed downlink pack access, is all over the UK. That’s fine for anyone wanting to download content to their phones or laptops. But what about those who need to upload it? They’ve had to watch the progress bar move along at a snail’s pace. Until now.

Today’s the day T-Mobile rolls out its high speed upload packed access (HSUPA), claiming to be the first service to offer it there, according to ZDNet. It predicts speeds of 1.4 Mbps, and has tweaked its HSDPA to offer speeds of around 4.5 Mbps.

T-Mobile chief executive Jim Hyde said the company had been prompted to improve its service because of "the growing passion for sharing photos and videos on social-networking sites."
