E.U. Hits Roaming Charge Deadline

Yesterday marked the deadline for mobile operators to cut the costs of roaming text messages in the EU. If they don't do it voluntarily, legislation might force the issue.
July 1 was the deadline set by the European Union for mobile operators across the continent to cut the roaming cost of sending text messages across the EU. Additionally, operators had been told to slash the cost of phone data usage, including Internet access, when abroad.
If the mobile operators don’t change their prices voluntarily, the EU has warned it will enact legislation to force the issue. No details about co-operation had been revealed, but the BBC reported that it was believed operators had agreed to a sufficient reduction to satisfy lawmakers.
