Microsoft Opens Live Mesh To All

July 18, 2008 | by Christopher Nickson

Microsoft has opened up its Live Mesh data-sharing service, with more features due by October.

Got a Windows Live ID? Then that’s all you need to enjoy Microsoft’s new Windows Live Mesh service, according to CNET.

First announced in April, Live Mesh allows users to share data across many Windows computers and on the Web.

But Live Mesh is also taking a broader view for the future, with data to be shared between PCs, Macs and handhelds, as well as desktop and web apps, some of which might well be added by the time Microsoft hosts its Professional Developer Conference in October.

The site Liveside.net spotted the Live Mesh announcement:

"The Live Mesh team is pleased to announce that anyone in the US can now use Live Mesh just by signing in to www.mesh.com with a valid Windows Live ID."

Quite surprisingly, Microsoft also gave instructions to outside users on how to spoof their machines into appearing to be US systems to use the service.

Way to go.. I click the link and get an error that my request can not be processed.

Is this an indication of things to come?

How can a multi-billion dollar company provide such poor service?

Par for the course, I'd say.
