LG Intros World's Slimmest 8MP Camera Phone

October 09, 2008 | by Nick Mokey

The KC780 measures just 13.9 millimeters thick, making it the thinnest phone of its kind, but with a full photo feature set as well.

Samsung may have been first to the 8-megapixel camera phone game, but LG hopes to capture its own claim to fame with the new KC780, which now holds the title of the world’s slimmest 8-megapixel phone. LG announced the sleek, sliding portrait phone on Thursday.

The KC780 claims its “world’s thinnest” title with a depth of just 13.9 millimeters, significantly slimmer than the Samsung Innov8, which measures 17.2mm in the same dimension. Besides the impressive form factor, LG has also added a number of other features normally associated with standalone digital cameras, including a Schneider-Kreuznach certified lens, smile detection, camera speeds up to ISO 1600, and DVD-quality video recording.

With LG’s Smart Bluetooth technology, the camera can even be used as a sort of wireless webcam when connected to a computer, untethering video chatters as long as they remain within Bluetooth range of the computer.

Unfortunately for U.S. buyers, the LG has no plans to introduce the handset in North America any time soon. It will debut in Europe in November, followed by India, Thailand, Hong Kong and China.
