Warhammer Online Reaches 750K Players

The newly launched MMORPG has already garnered a worldwide audience of 750,000 subscribers, less than a month after its debut.

Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning may still be a ways from the 10-million subscriber mark World of Warcraft hit back in January, but in less than a month since its release, the game has seen its fanbase mushroom. Publisher Electronic Arts announced on Friday that the game had finally reached 750,000 registered players.

“Thanks to our players, the war between the Realms continues to escalate at an incredible pace,” said Mark Jacobs, co-founder and general manager of Mythic Entertainment, in a statement. “The battlefields are alive with three quarters of a million players fighting for the forces of Order and Destruction in truly epic and unparalleled Realm vs. Realm battles!”

By contrast, Blizzard built a worldwide subscriber base of 4 million for World of Warcraft in about nine months following its release, an average of 440,000 players per month. Warhammer, released on Sept. 18, has yet to even wrap up its first month.

The massively multiplayer game sells in retail stores for $50, with monthly subscription fees ranging from $15 on a month-by-month basis, down to $13 when purchased in 6-month chunks.
