80GB Zune Sells Out

November 20, 2007 | by Christopher Nickson

The Zune is becoming the media player hit of the holiday season.

If you’ve been considering buying one of the 80GB Zune media players for Christmas, you might as well start sweating now. They’re sold out all across the Web, and the chances of finding one at a bricks-and-mortar retailer stand somewhere between slim and none.

Microsoft has promised more stocks will be available in around two weeks, and an Amazon spokesperson has told the Associated Press that they’re receiving a few units each week and that many Zunes have “definitely shipped and sold.”

You can easily obtain the 4 and 8GB Zunes, but the bigger units have been in remarkable demand.

Microsoft has to be happy at the response, since it’s been lagging far behind Apple and its various iPods in the media player market.

Wow if you make few enough of them they get scarce, imagine that. Hoping that scarcity will push demand. Sounds like Microsoft. More likely unavoidable manufacturing delays got in the way and they decided not to delay release untill the process was fixed. Still, if you make it scarce around Christmas you might be able to generate at least interest in the things. So far, I hear no one screaming that they can't get them. Except all the media. It seems the buying public just don't want them enough to make noise.
