Circuit City Gives HD DVD Buyers a Break

The major retail chain has expanded its retail policy to cover HD DVD players for 90 days, giving those with buyer's remorse a chance to back out.
We’ve all hopped on the wrong bandwagon at some point, whether it was Pogs in fifth grade, Pets.com stock in 1999, or Betamax back in ’80s. Fortunately for some HD DVD buyers who found themselves in this situation after the recent death of the format, there might still be a way out. Circuit City enacted a policy on Thursday that it would extend its normal 30-day return policy to 90 days for HD DVD players. This means that even players bought nearly a month before Warner Bros. kick-started HD DVD’s demise with exclusivity to Blu-ray will be eligible for return if buyers act immediately. Circuit City has made no attempt to publicize the policy, but store spokeswoman Jackie Foreman confirmed the policy shift to ABC News. While the new rules significantly expand the return window for HD DVD players, those who take advantage of the policy will only be able to receive store credit for their purchases, and HD DVD movies are not eligible.
