McAfee Identifies Massive Cyber Attack

Over 20,000 pages have been hacked to redirect surfers to a site loaded with malware.

The Internet can be a dangerous place, and it’s becoming more deadly all the time. According to Vnunet, McAfee Avert Labs have discovered a massive hack that could end up affecting thousands of web surfers.
Here’s how it works: hackers modify innocent web pages to silently redirect visitors to a site or sites full of malware that attempt to infect the visitor’s computer. McAfee described it as "one of the largest attacks to date of this kind."
With government and travel sites hit, users need to remember that nowhere is safe. According to the McAfee site, “the attack seems to have started more than a week ago, and nearly 20,000 web pages have been found to be compromised.”
It’s believe that the affected web pages were victims of an automated attack that scanned the internet for unsecured servers, then planted JavaScript code that redirected visitors. The final destination with all the malware is a site in China, and the code on all the pages comes from the same Chinese server.
