BenQ's new E2200HDA LCD display claims to be the first to pack 1080p full HD resolution into a 21.5-inch monitor.

Taiwan's BenQ has unveiled its new LCD display, which claims to be the first monitor on the planet to pack a 1080p full HD resolution into a 21.5-inch display. (And given the somewhat odd panel size, they're probably correct.) BenQ says the E2200HDA will be the first in a line of five full HD LCD monitors that support 1080p resolution and the 16:9 aspect ratio—and some of those will stretch out to 24 inches.

"With the introduction of the world's first 21.5-inch Full HD 16:9 LCD, BenQ is clearly poised to bring HD splendor beyond just TV," said BenQ general manager Peter Chen, in a statement. "Our upcoming Full HD lineup in sleek LCD form makes 1080p viewing luxury a convenient possibility for all aspects of daily life."

The E2200HDA features 300 cd/m2 of brightness, a 10,000:1 contrast ratio, a 5ms response time, and integrated speakers, and a headphone jack…and that's about all BenQ has to say, other than the unit supports BenQ's Senseye+photo image optimization technology. Two additional models in the E-series will sport HDCP-supporting HDMI and DVD-D connectors, but it's not clear whether that also applies to the E2200HDA—especially since those E-series displays will carry a 2ms response time. BenQ also plans two full HD displays in its M series, integrating a 2 megapixel Web cam, a D-Sub connection, 2 ms response times, and HDMI and DVI-D inputs (both supporting HDCP). BenQ plans to launch the E2200HDA in Asia, Latin America, and Europe in the third quarter; no word on pricing or a North American release.
